SATURDAY DAY COURSES - £18.50 (Concessions are available)

Photography Statues - Edinburgh - Saturday 6th October 2018. -Statues of Edinburgh. Edinburgh has a host of statues and I’m sure, like many people, you have tried photographing them on holiday and thought, ‘why hasn’t that worked. They looked great to look at’. So this photography outing is all about Statues; what to consider in photographing them, lenses, apertures, light, etc. We will take a wonder along George Street and the statues there, as well as look at Sir Walter Scott, and ‘Wojtek’, the Soldier Bear. Plenty to discuss and find out about photography.

St. Mary's Cathedral and St. John's Church - Saturday 3rd November 2018 St. Mary’s Cathedral and St. John’s Church. Both venues are fantastic for photography. The interiors are quite amazing, as are the stained glass windows – the Paolozzi Window and Sir Walter Scott’s pew in St. Mary’s and stained glass in St. John’s dating from the 1860’s. As with all interiors, there are problems for the photographer. This session will help you consider and, I hope, overcome some of them. Exposures times, iso, white balance are just some of the issues that will impact us, as well as the usual issues of light and composition. But that is why we are there; to help us take those great churches abroad, or at home, wherever we are.

Museum of Scotland - Edinburgh Chamber Street - Saturday 24th November 2018 Museum of Scotland. This is a dream building for photography. Full of great shapes, dramatic and subtle lighting, brilliant angles. It really does have it all, especially if you want to learn to ‘see’ the ‘graphic’ in photoGraphy. If the weather is good, the roof garden affords great views over the South side of Edinburgh as well. So, come with me and delve into those areas of image making that turns a so-so photographer into a great 'capturer' of the photograph.

Edinburgh Christmas Market - Saturday 15th December 2018 - The Edinburgh Christmas Market. This annual event is a great opportunity for photography, capturing the excitement of Christmas, the colour, the atmosphere, the movement and weather. A brilliant opportunity to try out long exposures, street photography, shallow depth-of-field and many other photographic techniques. So, join in the Christmas spirit and take your camera along for a great day out.

Beginning with the basics, you will learn about composition and control of the camera. This course is primarily aimed at those students with SLR and hybrid cameras but all students are welcome. Weather permitting, some time may be spent outdoors taking night shots and addressing problems that might arise as well as taking indoor shots around the school. There are projects and discussion of students work. Students are encouraged to show examples of their photographs taken both in and out-with the class.

Thursday at Currie High School 7pm - 9pm. Start date: 27th September. Have you got a digital camera that you feel you’re not getting the most out of? This is an exciting opportunity for all levels to take their interest in photography to the next level. Learning will be through practical projects, not just listening; but doing. It is expected that you will take photographs during the week to discuss at the following classes and also as a way of learning how to use your camera effectively. Therefore, the class is not just about using the camera , but also 'seeing' the photograph. If the weather is suitable, then some outdoor night photography could also be addressed within class time.r.

The Monday class is for those who feel confident in using the camera.  The Thursday class is aimed at the complete beginner. However, there can be overlaps in both classes, as it is up to the individual to book and it is up to you which one you join.

Courses are run by Edinburgh Adult Education from South Bridge Resource Centre, Infirmary Street, Edinburgh, (nr. Chamber Street).  Phone 0131 556 7978 for further details and booking.
